Vaccination and immunization

Vaccination


The dead germ (virus or bacteria) which are injected into the body and produce
Anibodies and make the person immune from the attack of that germ is called vaacine and process of injecting vaccine into body is called vaccination The development of immunity
in the body as a result of vaccination or live germ is called immunization

 Edward Jenner  developed the technique of vaccination in 1795 Cowpox pus

is known as vacca. Vacca is a Latin word It neans cow. The term
Vaccination is derived from this word vacca. The vacca or pus contains killed germs
Edward Jenner injected pus into the body of a person.the person developed immunity  against it. He became immune.
the attack of live virus. The individuais are vaccinated at early life for sOme
Diseases. They become immune to such disease throughout their life.
Many diseases like polio, whooping,cough, measles, mumps etc are controlled by vaccination. Vaccine has totally eliminated
small pox . SCientists are trying to develop vaccines against other diseases
lke AlDS.

  • 3. Drugs Treatment and Gene Therapy:


Following drugs and treatment are used against the diseases.

i) Antibiotics:


The chemical substances which kill germs in the body are Called antibiotics.
Antibiotics can kill bacteria. So antibiotics are given against the
Bacterial disease.

(ii) Radiotherapy:

It is used against
cancer. Radioactive materials produce radiations.these radiation are passed through the cancerous cells at regular interval
destroys cancerous (self- dividing) cells. Many centres are present in the world.

(iii) Chemotherapy


It is also used against cancer. Certain anticancer chenmical are applied at
regular intervals. These chemicals kill cancerous cells these chemicals may kill certain normal cell.

(iv) Gene therapy


The replacement of defective gene by a normal gene in the body is called gene therapy.This is a new technique. It is used to repair defective genes. The normal genes are isolated and These genes are inserted into the host cells.in case of bine marrow cancer normal genes are inser in bone marrow cells.

iii) Integrated Disease Management:


The control of a disease by using all methids, as and when required is called IDM. Awareness is produced in the society about the causes and cure of a disease.this is very effective programmer against all the dangerous disease.

Excretion in Invertibrate Excretion in Planaria Habitat : Planaria is a fresh water invertebrate.   Excretory product: planaria remove ammonia and it is ammonotlic. This excretion occurs by two methods, diffusion, specialized excretory system. Excretory organs: Planaria has simple tubular excretory system called protonephiridia. Protonephridia arranged in two longitudinal trunk one on each side of the body. Each track consists of a network of tubules without internal openings. These tubules divide into small branches which open in flame cells. Tubules open on the outside by small opening called nephridiophores. Structure of flame cell: Flame cells are club shaped hollow cells. Each flame cell contains nucleus, cytoplasm and internal cavity. Group of cilia is present in the cavity. Nitrogenous Wastes Of Animal: Waste Products Of Animals: The nitrogenous wastes are urea,ammonia and uric acid . These all wastes are not removed by the same animal. These wastes are produced and excreted by different animal which are living in different habitats. The type of nitrogenous waste and their excretion depend upon the habitat of an animal. 1.Ammonia (NH3): It is the excretory product of aquatic animals ,developes by the break down of amino acids,harmful to the living cells,excreted by diffusion and highly soluble in water. About 500 ml of water is needed to remove one gram of ammonia . Animals those excrete ammonia are called ammonotelic . Examples: Eartworm, protozians, sponges and fishes etc. 2.Urea {CO (NH2)2}: It is the excretory products of mostly land animals ,produced by the liver from ammonia,less toxic than ammonia and can be store in the body for short time.
